While money isn’t everything, it is something. Getting a job is a necessary part of life. However, not everyone is sure about how to get one. Here is a step by step guide on how to find the right job for you.

Search for a job that interests you, but meets your abilities.
Finding a job that doesn’t fit you can be like trying to fit a square block into the space of a triangle. Choose a job that doesn’t make you dread going to. However, make sure that it is realistic of your skills to make the most use of your time. For example, if you want to be an actor, but you have only been in one high school play, that would probably be an unrealistic goal.

Make your cover letter and resume concise and precise
After you have found a job you are confident in, start crafting your cover letter and resume letter. Employers will quickly scan over your resume, so it is important to only include your highlighted experience so they get a clear sense of your abilities. Furthermore, only include your experience in the past 5-7 years as any more than that may be outdated.

Be prepared for your interview
When attending an interview, make sure to dress professionally to show that you are serious about your job. In addition, it may be worthwhile to practice potential questions. Questions are usually HR, or technical. HR questions test your personality and how well you work with others. Technical questions gauge your skills set for the job.

Make your online presence known
With the internet growing more into our lives more than ever before, make yourself in it. LinkedIn connects employees and employers together; similar to something like Instagram, but for work. Making an attractive account can be similar to making a nice resume. List facts about yourself, such as your current job, where you live, your skills, and most importantly, your contact.

Find something easy or temporary
Finding a job can take some time, so you may need some money in the meantime. Temporary jobs or contractors can help fill that gap. Contractors are people who work for themselves, but offer their services for another temporarily. Temporary jobs are jobs that only last for a short period of time, and typically don’t include employee benefits. While these may not be the most flattering job, they can be a way to get you through while you’re in between jobs as they are flexible.
